The winners for the 22nd Annual OFTA Television Awards have been announced.
The Crown was the top winner in the drama categories this year with a win in Best Drama Series. It also won the awards for Best Actress for Claire Foy, production design, and costume design. However, it was Game of Thrones that took home the most awards with eight. The fantasy drama scored wins in Best Guest Actress (Diana Rigg) and directing along with six creative awards. Best Actor in a Drama Series went to Matthew Rhys for The Americans, Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series went to David Harbour for Stranger Things, Best Supporting Actress was awarded to Yvonne Strahovski for The Handmaid’s Tale, Guest Actor in a Drama Series went to Cameron Britton for Mindhunter, and The Americans received the award for Best Ensemble in a Drama Series as well as Writing in a Drama Series.
On the comedy side, newcomer The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel topped all other comedy programs with four awards including honors for Best Comedy Series, Comedy Actress (Rachel Brosnahan), Supporting Actress (Alex Borstein), and ensemble. Atlanta picked up four awards as well including Best Actor (Donald Glover), Supporting Actor (Brian Tyree Henry), directing, and writing. Sterling K. Brown and Maya Rudolph won the Guest Actor and Guest Actress awards respectively.
In the movies and limited series categories, The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story was the most honored program with seven awards including Limited Series, Darren Criss as Best Actor, Judith Light as Best Supporting Actress, ensemble, writing, production design, and costume design awards. Twin Peaks was also dominant, taking six awards including directing and five creative categories. USS Callister (Black Mirror) won the Motion Picture award along Non-Series Visual Effects. The Actress award went to Laura Dern for The Tale and Jeff Daniels won in Supporting Actor for Godless.
Variety and Non-Fiction Programming categories, the top Variety prize went to Saturday Night Live, which also won for Female Performance (Kate McKinnon), Donald Glover won Best Host, the series won for ensemble, and directing. Best Non-Fiction Program was awarded to RuPaul’s Drag Race, and John Oliver took the male performance prize for his late night program. The Best Animated Series category was awarded to the BoJack Horseman with its star Will Arnett picking up the award for Best Voice-Over Performance.
