The nominations for the 17th Annual OFTA Film awards were announced on Sunday, January 27, 2013.
Best Picture nominee Les Misérables led the nominations with 17 while Lincoln came in second with 13. The eight other films nominated for Best Picture are Amour, Argo, Life of Pi, Moonrise Kingdom, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Silver Linings Playbook, Skyfall and Zero Dark Thirty. All five Best Director nominees were among this year’s Best Picture nominees, the nominations going to Ben Affleck, Kathryn Bigelow, Michael Haneke, Ang Lee and Steven Spielberg.
Moonrise Kingdom tied Zero Dark Thirty for third-most nominations this year with twelve each. Just below them with eleven nominations was fellow Best Picture nominee Life of Pi with Argo coming in one below with ten nominations.
We have three new categories this year, plus a pair of categories were combined. The Voice-Over Performance makes a return. The award was last given in 1998 and discontinued shortly after. With the large number of animated films in release each year, we felt it important to begin recognizing the great, unsung voice-over work that takes place each year. Celebrating a different kind of art, the OFTA will now be honoring the year’s best movie posters and trailers. To see the nominated trailers, go to the link below and click on the dates next to each numbered trailer. The posters are included inline on the nominations page.
The First Feature and First Screenplay categories were combined into a single category this year, Best Feature Debut. The category will be awarded to one or multiple winners based on the votes of the membership.
The winners will be revealed on Sunday, February 10, 2013.
