The nominations for the 16th Annual OFTA Television Awards have been announced.
Best Drama Series nominee Mad Men leads this year’s nominations with 18. Another nominee in the Best Drama Series category, American Horror Story came in second with 15 nominations. Third place went to Movie/Miniseries nominee Game Change with 14 nominations. With 13 nominations each, two other Movie/Miniseries nominees came in tied for fourth: Hatfields & McCoys and Sherlock, which becomes the first movie/miniseries to earn nominations in two years since Prime Suspect picked up its second series mention five years ago.
Joining Mad Men and American Horror Story in Best Drama Series are Boardwalk Empire (12 nominations), Breaking Bad (11 nominations), Downton Abbey (5 nominations) and Game of Thrones (12 nominations). Downton Abbey was nominated in the movie/miniseries categories at last year’s awards and makes its first appearance in the standard series categories.
In the Best Comedy Series category, the top nominee is Modern Family with 11 nominations. Nominated alongside it are The Big Bang Theory (7 nominations), Community (7 nominations), Curb Your Enthusiasm (2 nominations), Louie (4 nominations) and Parks and Recreation (6 nominations).
Game Change, Hatfields & McCoys and Sherlock will go head-to-head in the Best Motion Picture or Miniseries category with Hemingway & Gellhorn (9 nominations), The Hour (10 nominations) and Page Eight (7 nominations).
The winners will be announced on Sunday, August 12, 2012.
