The nominations for the 20th Annual OFTA Television Awards have been announced.
Best Limited Series nominee The People v. O.J. Simpson earned seventeen nominations this year, the most nominated limited series of the season. Last year’s most nominated program, Game of Thrones, remained on top this year with eighteen (18) nominations, barely beating out The People v. O.J. Simpson.
Tied for third place in the nominations count, Best Limtied Series nominee Fargo and Drama Series nominee House of Cards, each have 16 nominations apiece. In fifth place is Limited Series nominee American Horror Story: Hotel with fifteen (15) citations followed by three programs with fourteen (14) nominations apiece: Best Comedy Series nominee The Big Bang Theory, Drama Series nominee Downton Abbey and Motion Picture nominee Sherlock: The Abominable Bride.
Along with Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones, and House of Cards, the other nominees for Best Drama Series are The Americans (10 nominations), Better Call Saul (5), Homeland (4), and Mr. Robot (4).
In Best Comedy Series, The Big Bang Theory is joined by black-ish (5 nominations), It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (2), Modern Family (5), Silicon Valley (3), Transparent (8), and Veep (10).
The nominees for Best Motion Picture, which includes the aforementioned Sherlock: The Abominable Bride, are All the Way (9 nominations), Confirmation (2), Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill (2), Luther (3), and A Very Murray Christmas (1).
For Best Limited Series, American Horror Story: Hotel, Fargo, and The People v. O.J. Simpson are nominated alongside The Night Manager (9 nominations), Roots (12), and Show Me a Hero (2).
In the category of Best Variety Program, the nominees are Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee (1 nomination), Inside Amy Schumer (5), Jimmy Kimmel Live (1), Key & Peele (6), Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (4), Portlandia (4), and Saturday Night Live (9). In Best Reality or Non-Fiction Program, the nominees are Adele: Live in New York City (3), Amy Schumer: Live at the Apollo (2), Inside the Actors Studio (1), Making a Murderer (4), Mapplethorpe: Look at the Pictures (1), The Oscars (1), and The Voice (3).
Rounding out the program categories are the nominees for a new category this year: Best Animated Program. Those nominees are: Archer (3), Bob’s Burger (1), BoJack Horseman (1), Family Guy (2), Robot Chicken (1), The Simpsons (1), and South Park (3).
The winners will be announced on Sunday, September 4, 2016.

Hey, you mixed American Crime with The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story. And I think Fargo only had 15 nominations.
The American Crime nominations have been pulled out of the American Crime Story set and its total reduced as a result. I re-counted Fargo and it looks like it does have 16. Thanks for the catch on O.J. and American Crime.
